Play Responsibly

Responsible
Gaming

Last updated: October 1, 2026. Fantasy contests are entertainment that costs real money. Here is how to keep it that way.

Need Help Now?

If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, free and confidential help is available from the National Council on Problem Gambling's National Problem Gambling Helpline. Call or text 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738), or chat online at ncpgambling.org.

Who Can Play

Paid fantasy contests are restricted by age and location:

  • You must be at least 18 years old in most U.S. states. Some states set the minimum at 19 or 21.
  • Illinois's and Virginia's new fantasy sports laws, effective July 1, 2026, set the minimum age at 21.
  • You must be physically located in a state where the platform operates when you enter a contest. Each platform verifies age and location at signup and when you play.

Rules change. The platform's own terms are the final word on eligibility where you live. Draftasy is written for adults of legal age to play.

Ground Rules for Playing Safely

  • Only play with money you can afford to lose. Entry fees are entertainment spending, not an investment.
  • Set a budget before you play and stick to it. Our bankroll management guide explains one simple approach.
  • Never chase losses. Raising your stakes to win back what you lost is how small losses become big ones.
  • Treat bonuses as bonuses. A signup offer is not a reason to deposit more than you planned.
  • Take breaks. If fantasy stops being fun, step away.

Warning Signs

Consider getting help if you notice any of these:

  • Spending more money or time on contests than you intended.
  • Borrowing money, or using money meant for bills, to play.
  • Hiding how much you play from family or friends.
  • Feeling restless or irritable when you try to cut back.
  • Playing to escape problems or to win back losses.

Use the Platform's Tools

DraftKings, FanDuel, Underdog Fantasy, and PrizePicks all offer responsible gaming controls, such as deposit limits, time-outs, and self-exclusion. You'll find them in your account settings or on each platform's responsible gaming page. If you need a break, use them. They are there for exactly that.
